Overview
Travel aboard the Northern Explorer from Auckland to Wellington, passing through some of the country's most breathtaking landscapes.
This iconic train journey departs from Parnell, Auckland and passes through the lush green hills of the Waikato, before making its way inland towards the central plateau. Along the way, you'll enjoy stunning views of the rugged landscapes of the Tongariro National Park, including the majestic Mount Ruapehu, which is the largest volcano in New Zealand.
As the train continues south, it passes through the scenic Rangitikei River valley and crosses the impressive Manawatu Gorge, bound for the Kapiti Coast.
