Northern Explorer train to Taumarunui
You can catch the Auckland to Wellington train to Taumarunui Railway Station on Saturday, Monday, and Thursday. Trains from Wellington to Taumarunui depart on Friday, Sunday, and Wednesday.
Taumarunui plays an important part in New Zealand railway history. When the Auckland to Wellington railway opened in 1908, passengers stayed here overnight because the train couldn't make the journey within a day. Later trains stopped here en route for a frantic rush to the station's refreshment room.
Please book in advance to ensure the train stops at Taumarunui Railway Station.
